6 Key Communication Skills Every Aspiring Leader Should Have in the New Age

In today’s fast-evolving world, leadership is no longer just about giving orders—it’s about connecting, inspiring, and leading with clarity. Aspiring leaders need powerful communication skills to succeed in the digital age. Here are six key communication skills every modern leader should develop:

  1. Active Listening
Great leaders listen more than they speak. Active listening helps leaders understand their team, build trust, and make informed decisions. It means being present, asking questions, and showing genuine interest in others' input.

  2. Clarity and Conciseness
The ability to communicate ideas clearly and without confusion is essential. Leaders must deliver messages in a simple, precise, and direct way to avoid misunderstandings and drive effective action.

  3. Emotional Intelligence
Communication is not just verbal—it’s emotional. Leaders with emotional intelligence are aware of their own feelings and can read the emotions of others. This helps in handling conflicts, motivating teams, and leading with empathy.

  4. Confidence with Humility
Leaders must speak with confidence, but also remain open to feedback and new ideas. Balancing confidence with humility earns respect and encourages a culture of collaboration.

  5. Digital Communication Skills
With the rise of virtual teams and online platforms, leaders must be proficient in digital communication—whether through email, video conferencing, or social media. Tone, timing, and digital etiquette matter more than ever.

  6. Storytelling
The most influential leaders are also great storytellers. They use stories to share vision, inspire action, and connect with their audience on a human level. A compelling story can move people far more than facts alone.

In the new age, communication is the bridge between vision and execution. Aspiring leaders who master these skills will not only lead teams—they’ll inspire movements

Albert Ojwang’s Father: “I Came to Nairobi with a Title Deed, But I’ll Leave with a Death Certificate

The heartbreaking words of Albert Ojwang’s father — “I came to Nairobi with a title deed, but I’ll leave with a death certificate” — have shaken the nation, highlighting the deep pain and injustice felt by many Kenyan families. His son, Albert Ojwang, was a young man full of promise whose life was tragically cut short under suspicious circumstances, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

Like many parents, Albert’s father came to the city seeking answers, hoping for justice and accountability. Instead, he was met with grief, bureaucracy, and a system that often fails victims. His statement echoes the experiences of countless Kenyans who come to Nairobi, the seat of power, seeking solutions — only to find heartbreak.

The title deed he refers to represents hope, investment, and a future once envisioned. The death certificate, in painful contrast, symbolizes loss, broken dreams, and a justice system in need of reform.

Albert’s story has become a symbol of a broader struggle for truth and justice in Kenya. As the family mourns, Kenyans must reflect on the state of justice and demand better for victims and their families. No parent should ever have to trade hope for heartbreak

Matiang’i Launches Global Campaign Trail with Diaspora Town Hall in Texas

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has taken a bold step toward his 2027 presidential bid by launching an international outreach campaign, beginning with a town hall meeting in Texas, USA. Held over the weekend at DFW Celebrations in Irving, the event attracted a vibrant crowd of Kenyans from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, eager to engage with Matiang’i and hear about his vision for Kenya’s future.

The gathering marked a significant moment in Matiang’i’s campaign trail, as he shifted focus toward the diaspora community, recognizing its growing political and economic influence in shaping Kenya’s direction. Speaking candidly, Matiang’i emphasized the critical role of Kenyans abroad in national development and governance.

“We cannot talk about Kenya’s future without including the diaspora,” he said. “Your voice matters, and your contribution is vital.”

Notably, Matiang’i, who recently stepped down from a role at the World Bank to focus fully on his 2027 ambitions, chose a conversational approach rather than a traditional political pitch. His heartfelt remarks, including a segment delivered in his native dialect, resonated deeply with attendees, highlighting his grassroots connection and inclusive leadership style.

This Texas event is said to be the first in a series of international engagements aimed at mobilizing support among Kenyans living abroad. According to campaign insiders, Matiang’i's diaspora strategy signals a new wave of outreach, aimed at uniting Kenyans globally behind a shared national vision

Kenya Airways Soars to Profitability in 2024 After Years of Losses

Kenya Airways (KQ) has achieved a remarkable financial turnaround in 2024, posting a profit after years of operating at a loss. This significant milestone was highlighted during the airline’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday, June 13, and marks a new chapter of growth and resilience for the national carrier.

CEO Allan Kilavuka credited the airline’s return to profitability to several key factors. A major contributor was the stabilization of the Kenyan shilling, which was strengthened in 2024 through the early repayment of the country’s Eurobond and strict monetary policies implemented by the Central Bank of Kenya. This financial stability allowed the airline to better manage its foreign-denominated debt and improve its overall cost structure.

Kilavuka also emphasized the impact of enhanced operational discipline, strategic financial restructuring, and a series of customer-focused innovations aimed at boosting service quality and competitiveness. Together, these efforts have not only restored confidence in the airline but also set the stage for sustainable growth moving forward.

During what was his final AGM before stepping down, Board Chairman Michael Joseph, who has served since 2016, celebrated the airline’s historic performance. He praised the leadership team and staff for achieving record-breaking operational results and restoring KQ’s path toward profitability.

The turnaround comes as a beacon of hope for Kenya Airways’ future. After enduring turbulent financial years and the global challenges of the aviation industry, this year’s profit signals strong governance, strategic foresight, and renewed investor confidence.

As Kenya Airways continues to build on its success, its 2024 performance could serve as a blueprint for other struggling national carriers in the region. The airline is not just flying again—it’s flying high

Understanding Sickle Cell Anaemia: The Urgent Need for Awareness

Sickle Cell Anaemia is a serious, inherited blood disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, particularly those of African, Middle Eastern, and Indian descent. Despite its widespread impact, awareness about the condition remains dangerously low, leading to delayed diagnoses, limited treatment options, and social stigma for those living with it.

This disease alters the shape of red blood cells, turning them from soft, round discs into stiff, crescent shapes. These “sickle” cells can block blood flow, causing intense pain, organ damage, infections, and other life-threatening complications. Children and adults with the condition often endure frequent hospital visits and chronic health issues that affect their quality of life.

What makes the situation worse is the silence surrounding the disease. Many people don’t know their carrier status until a child is born with sickle cell. Simple blood screening and genetic counseling can help prevent this, yet access to such services is still limited in many communities.

Raising awareness is crucial—not just among families, but also within schools, workplaces, and healthcare systems. Early diagnosis, proper care, emotional support, and public understanding can greatly improve life expectancy and wellbeing for those affected.

It’s time to break the silence around sickle cell anaemia. With more awareness comes better care, informed choices, and hope for a healthier future
